How to Use
Basalt is a volcanic rock formed by the solidification of lava that comes to the surface during volcanic eruptions. Basalt, which is a fine-grained, densely structured, durable and extremely hard rock, is very difficult to abrade.
What should be considered when using basalt as a baking stone?
1) Just before the first use, wash and rinse the product with plenty of water using a brush. There is no need to wash it during subsequent uses. It will be sufficient to wipe it with a damp cloth.
2) Before baking, heat your stone in the oven at 250 C for 30-35 minutes. (time may vary depending on oven). The stone must be hot before baking, otherwise the bottom of the dough will not cook. If you think that the stone is not cooking your dough, you will need to increase the heating time of the stone.
3) Basalt has a structure that expands a little at high temperatures. It is not suitable for use in point heat sources such as industrial home stoves, it may crack. It is suitable for oven use.
4) Apply oil to the shiny upper surface of your Stone where you will place the dough. This will reduce sticking and conduct heat better to the dough. You should also sprinkle some flour on the surface of the stone before the baking process. This will reduce sticking.
5) You can preferably use baking paper under the dough.
6) The stone should not be contacted with water when it is hot and the stone should never be placed in a hot oven while it is wet. Sudden temperature changes, cooling and warming, may damage the stone and cause it to crack.
